Party and AGM

Join us for a fun-filled family party, get to know the committee and find out what we do. It’s a great opportunity to meet other local families, make new friends and catch up with old ones.

Date: 11th March 2023
Venue: Summerside School, Crossway, London N12 0QU
Time: 2.30pm – 5.00pm

Once again we’re holding our Annual General Meeting during the party to enable as many members as possible to find out more about NLDCS and share your thoughts while your children are being entertained.

While we hold our meeting we’ve got a wonderful interactive story teller coming to enthral the children and afterwards everyone will tuck into a tasty party tea.

Please remember that your child/ren are your responsibility throughout the party. If you wish to attend the AGM, please bring an extra family member so you don’t leave your child unattended.

As usual, to keep our costs down, we’re asking you to bring some sharing food to eat or drink – preferably finger food that doesn’t need heating up and can be eaten without cutlery. Please mark what it is, and whether it contains nuts/meat or is suitable for vegetarians.

Please book in advance and let us know how many people are coming, and what you’ll be bringing. To book your places, please fill out this booking form. Please let us know if you require an interpreter at the AGM.

Jack! Playing is believing….

….. at the Chickenshed Theatre

Date: Sunday 11 December
Time: 1pm for 1.30 start
Venue: Chickenshed Theatre, Chase Side, Southgate, NW14 4PE
Suitable for age: 5+
Cost: Adult: £14 (normal price £20)
Deaf child/ren: Free (courtesy of the NLDCS)
Siblings: £7 (normal price £16)

This is a captioned performance with integrated BSL throughout.
Meet Jack, the poor and disheartened character of our Christmas show, who – along with Jack’s exasperated mother and bothersome sibling – lives in a tiny house, in a run-down seaside town. Bullied and outcast Jack takes refuge in arcade games, playing them every day on the paint-stripped pier.

One day, instead of just playing the video game, Jack becomes a part of the game where some ‘giant’ challenges must be faced. With the help of some unusual characters, met along the way, Jack must overcome these trials to complete the levels of ‘The Beanstalk’.

There is a free car park and other parking in surrounding street and a cafe onsite for snacks and drinks. Arrive before the show and have a chance to meet up with some of the other NLDCS families.

A printed synopsis of the performance can be requested directly from the theatre accessbookings@chickenshed.org.uk The performance time is 1hr 45 minutes including an interval.

Chickenshed is a 10-15 minutes walk from Oakwood and Cockfosters tube stations on the Piccadilly Line.

How to Book:
Please fill out this booking form and transfer your payment immediately with any membership fee of £5 due. Your booking will only be secure when fully paid. Confirmation of your booking will be made when paid. The discounted adult tickets are thanks to Chickenshed Theatre and the NLDCS is paying for all deaf children. Please note that tickets are not transferable to families outside of the NLDCS. If demand exceed ticket supplies, we will operate a waiting list. So please book early.

Join our picnic

North London Deaf Children’s Society Family Picnic

Venue: Highgate Wood
Date: Sunday 26th June
Time: 12.30

This was great fun last summer and will be a good chance to meet old and new NLDCS families in a relaxed space.

We will meet in the grassy picnic area for a picnic. Please bring your own picnic and blanket to sit on and let us know how many in your family are coming.

Please do bring along balls and outdoor games.  We will bring the parachute which we had so much fun with last year 🙂

If you have never been to Highgate Wood before please have a look at: https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/things-to-do/green-spaces/highgate-wood

Highgate Wood is a beautiful old wood with lots of trees to climb and log dens to play in.  There is also a playground, toilets, and cafe and dogs are welcome.  Please note that bike riding is not permitted in the woods. The woods are close to Highgate Station (Northern line) and various bus routes.  The wood itself does not have a car park but street parking is available in the surrounding area.

If you would like to join us please email zibiah@gmail.com with the names of people in your family who will join with you, the ages of any children and if you wish a mobile number we can text or call you on to help locate each other there.

After the picnic those of us with younger children will very likely gravitate towards the playground area which is well sign posted and well loved for its sand pit and zip wire 🙂
