Easter treat for kids aged 3+

Young fans of CBeebies – and their families – are bound to be familiar with the enchanting world of Sarah and Duck. Now they’re stepping off the small screen and on to the stage, and NLDCS is giving you the chance to join them in a brand new show, called Sarah & Duck’s Big Top Birthday, at the Arts Depot during the Easter Holidays.

Meet them, together with their friends including The Ribbon Sisters, The Shallots, Flamingo & John and Umbrella, as they plan a birthday party for Scarf Lady in their garden. The tale is being performed in a fantastic blend of puppetry, storytelling and music, taking you and your children on a magical adventure.

Age:  3+
Cost: Deaf children and siblings £7 each (*subsidised by NLDCS; normal ticket price is £14 per person); one adult carer per deaf child goes free; other friends and family members £12.60 each

Children’s pottery painting

 Children’s pottery painting on Saturday 24th March – free for deaf children 

NLDCS has arranged pottery painting for your children on Saturday 24th March, so book now to ensure a place!

Details are below and please note that the venue and time are different from those in our recent newsletter.

Where: Fired Treasures, 143 Dollis Rd, Mill Hill NW7 1JX
When: 2pm prompt, Saturday 24th March (please arrive 15 mins early
Age: 3+ – as long as your child can pick up a paintbrush. Deaf children will be given priority, but places may be available for hearing siblings.

What’s involved: A 1 ½ hour session in which children can unleash their artistic talents and decorate a mug or plate. These will be fired after painting and given to you at a later date.

Transport: Free parking in surrounding streets, and in Virgin Active and Waitrose car parks in Langstone Way. A few minutes’ walk from Mill Hill East Tube station (Northern line).

Cost: Free for deaf children who must pre-book. Siblings will need to be paid for – about £15 per child.

How to book: It’s vital to book in advance, as numbers are limited and we won’t be able to include extra people on the day.

*Full name and mobile number of parent

*Name(s) of child(ren) who will be attending, their age(s), whether they’re deaf or hearing, and their communication needs

Extra info:

  •  This event is only open to member families.
  • Parents of children aged under 16 must stay on site throughout the session.
  • Remember to book within the 18th March deadline as we need to confirm numbers the following morning.
  • If your child can’t make it on the day, please contact Sharon Webb on 07802 841888 as early as possible so that the place can be given to someone on the waiting list.

Want to know what NLDCS has been up to over the past year, and find about about what’s planned for the rest of 2018?  Then come along to our AGM, where you’ll also have the opportunity to feed back about what you’ve enjoyed and share ideas for future events. After the short meeting you’ll be able to catch up with committee and friends over drinks and nibbles.

It’s party time!

Date: Saturday 24 February 2018
Time: 2.30-5.00pm
Venue: Martin Primary School, Plane Tree Walk, East Finchley N2 9JP
(Entry via the second entrance on Plane Tree Walk as we are in the dining hall)
Age: 0-100 – all families and deaf children are welcome!

Come and join us for a fun-filled disco themed party. There will be party games from 2.30pm for the children, giving adults time to chat and meet other parents.
As usual, to keep our costs down we’re asking you to bring something to eat or drink – preferably finger food that doesn’t need heating up and can be eaten without cutlery. Do mark what it is, and whether it contains nuts/meat or is suitable for vegetarians.

Please book in advance and let us know how many people are coming, and what you’ll be bringing. To book your places, contact Northlondon@ndcsgroup.org.uk as soon as possible, letting her know about any communication requirements/specific needs.

Rapunzel at the Chickenshed

Date: Saturday 9 December 2017
Venue: Chickenshed Theatre, Chase Side, Southgate N14 4PE
Time: 3-5pm (inc interval)
Age: 5+
Cost: Deaf children & siblings free, other family members £13 per ticket

Our annual visit to the Chickenshed is always immensely popular, and this year you’ll get the chance to see Rapunzel as you’ve never seen her before. In a new and exciting musical version of this well-loved tale, the theatre’s large and amazingly diverse cast will dazzle and delight children and adults alike.

A captioned, BSL-integrated performance is taking place on 9 December and Chickenshed is kindly offering our members subsidised tickets. NLDCS will provide free tickets for deaf children and their siblings, so you only have to pay for accompanying adults. Tickets always go quickly and will be sold on a first come, first served basis.

Please note that tickets should be reserved for immediate family only, to give as many deaf people as possible the chance to see this amazing show.
